Confidentiality

Students and their families are provided protection of confidential information under the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), state law, and school board policy. In general, records that contain personally identifiable information on students must be kept in a confidential manner and not disclosed without specific written permission from a parent, guardian, or adult student. Personally identifiable information is any information that would lead an individual to identify a particular student and can include, but is not limited to names, initials, birthdates, student ID numbers, or other like descriptors. Parents and adult students also have rights granted under FERPA to inspect records kept on the student.

The District does have the right to share student information with law enforcement agencies including courts or another school district when a student moves to that district.

If you have any questions about student confidentiality, please contact the Special Services Office at (360) 277-2111.
