🌟 Student Spotlight: Samantha Neil 🌟
Records run in the family at North Mason! 💙
Back in 1972, Ken Van Buskirk set a school javelin record—now, decades later, his granddaughter, Samantha Neil, is making history of her own. The sophomore pole vaulter recently cleared a school-record 11 feet, the top mark in the state for 2A this season! 🎉
A two-time Olympic League champion, Samantha continues to soar—building on her runner-up finish at state last year. With hard work, dedication, and a passion for the sport, she’s proving that anything is possible! 💪✨
We can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next!

🌿Field Biology Site Survey🍃
Field Biology students have been conducting site surveys at the Theler Wetlands classroom as part of their final project in their plant research unit. In groups of two, students map off 10 by 10-meter areas to research and identify plants they have been studying throughout the semester. The students travel to the Theler Wetlands four days a week as part of their studies.
Classes like this at the North Mason School District Theler classroom have been happening over the last 35 years, 10 of which have been under Erin Varbel's instruction. She is proud to share that the class has gained a tremendous amount of interest and is now offered as part of the robust CTE programs available in our district. "Next year, we have 56 students who have signed up for the class, which is an increase from the 17 enrolled now." Challenges to this course offering include transporting students that are not able to drive themselves, as "the recent levy failure threatens being able to offer a program like this, going forward."
Thank you for sharing this classroom experience, Erin, and for highlighting how our students are benefiting from this pristine wetland environment that we are fortunate to have right here in our community.

🐳🐬🐟🐠🐡 Fair Harbor Field Lab Marine Biology 🦈🐙🐚🐋🦑
Ms. Landers' Marine Biology students from NMHS brought hands-on science to Fair Harbor through an engaging field experience. In collaboration with the Case Inlet Fisheries Task Force (
https://www.caseinletfish.com/), students conducted a variety of scientific investigations, including surface and deep-water quality testing, Secchi disk transparency analysis, zooplankton net sampling, and microscopic plankton observation. They also utilized an underwater camera to explore aquatic environments and practiced knot-tying techniques used in salmon netting. A highlight of the day was the successful capture of a Comb Jelly, belonging to Phylum Ctenophora.
An additional piece of exciting news to add on to this field trip information comes from Principal Hadfield about the arrival of the Salmon Net Pens (see photos). The Net Pens will be placed at the marina next year and utilized in the CTE pathways of Aquaculture, Advanced Robotics (with an underwater focus), and Marine Biology.
Thank you Ms. Landers and Principal Hadfield, for sharing the students' experience on this field trip and for shining a light on the exciting opportunities available to our students through the robust CTE program offered in the district.

The NMHS Career Center took sixteen students on a field trip to Bates Technical College to explore the many different career paths available. Students delved into careers in fire and emergency medical services, barbery, construction, welding, auto body, and much more! They also received bonus free haircuts from students enrolled in the barber program. Good timing!
Speaking of timing -- there is still time to enroll for the Fall quarter at Bates Technical College. Visit batestech.edu to learn more.
This is just one of many field trips the Career Center has organized for students to explore the multitude of career paths available to them through post-secondary education career training.

🥎 The NMHS fastpitch team had a special guest join them to throw out the first pitch at yesterday's game. Before stepping up to the mound, Superintendent Rosenbach got some quick tips from Coach Youngberg as well as high-fives and encouragement from the team. After throwing a convincing toss over home plate, the team presented her with a signed ball as a commemorative keepsake.

🕺🎷🚶♀️Beautiful Day for a Parade!🥁🚶🏻🎺🚶
Our band students, families, musical directors, and bus drivers had an early start this morning, heading off to compete in the 75th Annual Loyalty Days Parade in Long Beach, WA. Enthusiasm was high during the pre-parade-pep-talk from their music instructors, Chris Drewry and Matt Frost, and there was lots of laughing and joking as parents loaded up the trailer with all the instruments. The bands typically do very well in this competition, amassing many awards through the years they have been participating. We wish you the best of luck!

🦷Molar Roller Team🦷 Thanks to our community partners at Peninsula Community Health Services, Sand Hill Elementary and North Mason Upper Campus students were able to access dental care this week though the mobile dental program; a service that removes the barrier many families face getting students to dental appointments. Nurse Jaclyn and her team are working to provide more valuable opportunities like this in the future. Thank you to all involved in making this possible for our students!
